Aesthetic surgery focuses on enhancing appearance and correcting perceived imperfections (e.g., facelift, breast augmentation). Reconstructive surgery restores form and function after injury, illness, or congenital defects (e.g., breast reconstruction after mastectomy, cleft palate repair). Many plastic surgeons perform both types.
