Miss Shaikh is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Buckinghamshire NHS Trust (BHT), with one of the largest and best-equipped departments in the country for Ophthalmic care. She was Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology at BHT for 6 years between September 2016 to August 2022. She is currently the Joint Lead for the glaucoma service and the Clinical Lead for the private Ophthalmology service at BHT.
She underwent postgraduate training in Ophthalmology in the Oxford Deanery and has been extensively trained in all aspects of General Ophthalmology. She underwent higher specialist training in Ocular Inflammatory Eye Diseases emphasising the role of immune modulation in managing Ocular Inflammatory Eye Diseases at some of the country's leading centres for ophthalmic care, including The Oxford Eye Hospital and The Western Eye Hospital, St. Mary's NHS Trust, London.
Miss Shaikh has been fellowship trained in Cornea and External Eye Diseases at the Western Eye Hospital, St. Mary's NHS Trust, London. She underwent further fellowship training in Glaucoma at the Oxford Eye hospital.
Miss Shaikh is highly experienced and well versed in all aspects of care of the Glaucoma patient including medical management, lasers (SLT, ECP, Cyclodiode and micropulse laser treatments), penetrating glaucoma drainage surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) (iStent, OMNI, Preseflo, Xen). She has expertise in the management of complex cataracts in glaucoma patients. Miss Shaikh is also very experienced in the management of all types of cataract and has experience with Toric and Toric/Multifocal or premium intraocular lens implants.
Mis Shaikh has published articles in most subspecialties of ophthalmology, particularly on Glaucoma. Her NHS practices mainly consists of Glaucoma and Cataracts, but she has helped a significant number of patients with external and allergic eye diseases, general ophthalmology, ocular inflammatory (uveitis or iritis) and lid disorders like lid cysts, lumps and bumps and blepharitis.
