Dr. Afshan Khaja is a highly experienced Urogynaecology Consultant with a remarkable decade tenure in the NHS. She is dedicated to improving the lives of women by specialising in the treatment of conditions such as prolapse and urinary incontinence.
One of Dr. Khaja's unique strengths lies in her ability to provide surgical solutions to women who may have been deemed medically unfit for surgery due to underlying health conditions. She performs certain surgeries under local anaesthesia, offering a viable option to patients who may have limited choices. Dr. Khaja has developed expertise in urinary incontinence surgery that utilises a patient's own tissues, with an emphasis on avoiding the use of mesh.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Khaja plays an active role in medical education and training. She serves on the national interview panel for selecting trainee doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is a panel member for the part 3 MRCOG examination. Her dedication to education extends to lecturing third-year medical students at the Birmingham Medical School and serving as an examiner for fourth-year medical students.
Dr. Khaja also has a history of participating in charity initiatives in Pakistan, particularly for patients who cannot afford medical treatment. She also has plans to expand her charitable endeavours to India in the future. She participates as a guest speaker in community settings in Birmingham, where she shares valuable insights with various charitable organisations.
