Mr Malin Wijeratna is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has a specialist interest in keyhole shoulder surgery and computer navigated shoulder replacements.
Mr Wijeratna qualified from Guys, Kings and St Thomas' Medical School, London in 2002. He undertook his postgraduate orthopaedic training on the East of England Registrar programme, which included training at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. Following this, he completed two Fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery in Melbourne, Australia. He returned to the UK for a Trauma Fellowship in Southampton. He was appointed Consultant to the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2014, where he worked until 2022 before moving his practice to Northampton General Hospital.
He has an active involvement in clinical research and has published extensively on conditions including shoulder replacements, rotator cuff repair, elbow arthroscopy and sternoclavicular joint anatomy. He has contributed to orthopaedic surgery textbooks and reviewed scientific articles for international medical journals. Mr Wijeratna also teaches shoulder surgery trainees in advanced arthroscopic techniques and also teaches other Consultants in advanced shoulder replacement techniques. He has been Faculty on many courses at home and abroad.
He is a member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and won prizes for his work for the society in 2011 and 2014.
