Adj Assoc Prof David Low is a graduate from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, having been conferred his medical degree (MBBCh) in 2000. He returned to Singapore for his post graduate basic surgical training. Adj Assoc Prof Low completed his basic surgical training in 2004 and was awarded his membership in General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (MRCS Ed).
During his surgical training, he completed his Master of Medicine in Surgery (MMed) from the National University of Singapore. He later pursued his interest in Neurosurgery and completed his advanced surgical training at the National Neuroscience Institute in Singapore. There, he worked at several esteemed hospitals including the Singapore General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Adj Assoc Prof Low was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (FRCS) upon completion of his neurosurgical training. In 2010, he received a scholarship from the Ministry of Health's (MOH) Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP). This enabled him to undertake a 1-year fellowship in Paediatric Neurosurgery at the renowned Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.
From 2013 to 2019, Adj Assoc Prof Low was appointed as the Programme Director for the SingHealth Neurosurgical Residency Programme. This role involved him in the development of the education program and training of residents in neurosurgery. He also served as the Head of Neurosurgical Service at KKH from 2015 to 2019.
Adj Assoc Prof Lof subsequently served as the Head of Department, Neurosurgery at National Neuroscience Institute(TTSH Campus) from July 2019 to June 2023.
Currently, he is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Clinical) and Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs and Development for the SingHealth Duke-NUS Neuroscience Academic Clinical Program.
Adj Assoc Prof Low’s subspecialty interest is in adult and paediatric brain tumours, epilepsy surgery and hydrocephalus.
